Matthew Bottomley

Head of Breeding Operations
Guide Dogs

Matthew has worked for Guide Dogs (UK) for over 30 years, in a variety of roles including Guide Dog Mobility Specialist, Quality Assurance Manager and Breeding Stock Selection Manager. He was instrumental in the design and development of the new National Breeding Centre, opened in 2012 and is an assessor for the International Guide Dog Federation and a member of the Kennel Club UK. His current role leads the management of the largest Assistance Dog breeding programme in the world.

His key responsibilities include monitoring, maintaining, and improving the genetic health, integrity and diversity of the programme and the development and application of the processes and procedures that support it. Equally crucial is the management of our wonderful teams of staff and volunteers, all to ensure a regular supply of fit, healthy, temperamentally sound, and happy Guide Dogs of the future, for people with sight loss in need.
